Unexpected Guest

We had a really nice family dinner at the Kaneohe Yangs' tonight. Nice way to end the weekend before my first day of school...what made it even more enjoyable was our unexpected guest! Cec made a surprise appearance and teleported herself from Ohio. ;)

It was a REALLY yummy dinner, salmon, steak, spinach salad...and Uncle Al's homemade ice-cream. Cec really seemed to like it and it was nice having her around. :) (see the Yang Family Blog for more details...and the secret to teleporting from Ohio to Honolulu for the night)

drive home

on my drive home from work last week i got choked up. i had just come from my first (unofficial) day at school. i stopped by to visit mom, cried as i talked with her because i just miss her so, stopped by to talk with aunty nina, laughed about my day, stopped by to talk with granny and lingered at the car door because it was just so nice to talk and chit-chat...and as i drove home to a home cooked meal with my dad and ryan, i realized i was happy. really happy. and i got choked up at the simple thought that this was life. my new life...and i like it here.

we've arrived

and so after a tearful parting with cec, an easy pass through check-in and security (first class has special lines), more tears in the waiting area, a champagne toast (again, first class is special), more tears at take-off, a three course meal (including prosciutto wrapped asparagus and a cheese plate)...we've arrived.

it was incredibly hard and emotional to leave seattle...but we're here. and we're happy. and after hugging my dad for the first time and seeing my grandmother's smile, i knew what i've known all along, that while difficult, this is where we want to be.

here we go...

and so our lives in Seattle have come to an end...in a short 20 minutes we'll be leaving for the airport and I'll be facing that moment that I've been dreading for the past 8 months, saying goodbye to Cec...

and with a broken cell and no way to universally text everyone a simultaneous, good-bye seattle, thank you for being good to us, thank you to our friends...and hello to our friends and family that we're moving towards...i'll write it here.

it's been an unforgettable past 15 years. while it's hard to describe the sorrow of leaving our lives here, we both know we're looking forward to being where we've always called 'home'...we'll see you on the other side of the ocean.

with so much love and thanks for the past 15 years that we've had in seattle,

stacy (and ryan)

starry starry night

guess who's a star now? ME!!! :) yup. if you look up at the skies on a really clear night (with an exceptionally strong telescope), to the upper left of the constellation scorpius, you'll find the star, "Stacy M. Y. Miyashiro"

Yup. I'm a star. :)

Had my very tearful going away party this afternoon at Steve's, and towards the end they gave me my star. (sigh) really really sad saying goodbye to people here...can't believe our lives in seattle are coming to an end.

choked up

driving from our place in Ballard to Cec's last night started to get choked up and that gaspy feeling i get when i'm having a really hard mom moment...only this time it was because it really hit. i'm leaving seattle in 8 days. leaving friends, leaving my cute house and leaving cec. i really can't say how happy we are to be moving home...but oh, it's going to be really hard to leave seattle too...
