Scenes from a Library

Day 3 - Seattle Public Library, Monica & Maya (woo hoo!), International District and the Wing Luke Museum (no pics of - boo)

The main Seattle Public Library is an absolutely amazing work of architecture. It won numerous awards the year it was built, and I swear is a work of art in itself. Here are a couple of scenes from the library:

the front (well looking up standing outside the front)

looking down from the top floor

even the elevator buttons are brilliant

the red conference room floor

hall walls made of glass
looking down the escalator to the spiral stacks
(floors actually built in a spiral along the dewey decimal system!)

even their Map Room is trippy - what libraries even HAVE a map room?!

Monica!! (taken by Maya who didn't want to be photographed)
After a nice stroll through the International District (china town) with Monica and Maya, met up with Rye and his folks again and walked through the Wing Luke Museum (the only Asian & Pacific Islander museum in the US) really really a well down museum for it's size and staff, and then capped off the day with a rest at the Panama Hotel tea shop followed by a wonderful Japanese dinner at Maneki, the oldest sushi bar in Seattle.

Seattle Day 2

Our first full day in Seattle, we didn't waste any time.

Picked up Rye's Dad at about 6 am, and went straight to Bakery Nouveau!

heaven in a croissant

After our yummy breakfast and smooth dark coffee...we headed out for the day to...

hee hee...where our short 15 minute stopped turned into an hour or two...and then on to..

Pike's Place!

The flowers were spectacular...

not to mention the fruit and veggies
Unfortunately I realized I really hardly took any pictures this trip! I think we were too busy just enjoying BEING in Seattle and experiencing it again. :) A lot of it was also nightly and afternoon get togethers with Rye's cousins (the real reason we went up) and who we love, it was wonderful to hang out with again.

for mom...

It well may be, that we will never meet again,
In this lifetime, so let me say before we part,
So much of me, is made from what I learned from you,
You'll be with me, like a handprint on my heart...

at a loss

i sat here for a while this morning. knowing that i wanted to write, but not knowing what to say...usually the words come freely...but today i'm at a loss.

today is June 3rd...and like your birthday when you open your eyes in the morning and know what day it is and that somehow it's significant... i will always wake up on June 3rd and know that today is the day we lost mom...

...and after writing it that way it sounds a little harder then i intended, yet true...but today will always be a day for me of reflection...of tears...of missing mom more so than i already do.

it was easier opening my eyes this morning and thinking of mom then it was last year...and i know that somehow it will be easier opening my eyes next year, then it was today.

it feels like a lifetime ago that she left us...and i think she would be proud of how far we've come and how we've grown. she would be proud of cec and how she held her head up high and walked through cancer like it was a breeze, and hug dustin and tell her she was happy that he was a part of our family. she would smile at dad and tell him that life is what we make of it, that she knows change is part of it, and she would be proud of where he is and that though what he's doing now is hard, it's right...and ryan and i? i still hear her thoughts every day in my head, but i know how proud she'd be of what we've done with our house, and then she'd laugh and say we have too many things and that we have our work cut out for us.

i love you Mom. i love you more than words can say. and miss you more than words can describe.

thank you for all you've taught me. thank you for all you've given me. thank you for helping to make me who i am.

love, stace

stretch

Driving for an hour at 70 mph feels like stretching my wings and learning to fly again. On route to Portland and happy.
